Construction

As new sanitary sewer lines are installed, they are inspected to make sure that they meet the necessary standards that have been adopted by each municipality.

GUIDELINES FOR CONNECTING TO THE SANITARY SEWER SYSTEMS OF BATH, DEWITT, & WATERTOWN TOWNSHIPS AND THE CITY OF DEWITT.

Pipe Size:

  1. In public streets, alley or right of way, not less than 6″
  2. Between public right of way and building, not less than 4″
  3. Multiple dwellings, commercial and industrial, pipe shall be of adequate size for expected flows.  Commercial and industrial sites shall be required to install a testing manhole at the property line per the approved Industrial Pretreatment Program of the SCCMUA
  4. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) type 1, minimum schedule 40, ASTM D-1785-House leads only
  5. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) type 2, SDR-26, ASTM D-3034
  6. 6″ pipe-1/8″ per foot (.125 inch)
  7. 4″ pipe-1/4″ per foot (.25 inch)

A low air pressure test shall be performed from the connection stub to within 10′ of the building.  This is the contractor’s responsibility to perform and have all of the proper equipment on hand according to the “Municipal Sanitary Sewer Standards”.  These tests require an inspection that must be scheduled 48 hours in advance.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Uniform grade and straight alignment.  Cleanouts are located within 10′ of discharge point from structure, at a maximum of every 90′ of straight runs from the mainline sewer, and at each 90°(degree) direction change (two 45° connectors), all clean-outs shall be capped.  Changes in direction only with properly curved elbow fittings.  For further details, refer to the Municipality’s Sewer Use Ordinance, and the “Municipal Standards”.
  • A minimum of 48 business hours prior to starting a job, notify the Southern Clinton County Municipal Utilities Authority at 3671 W. Herbison Rd, DeWitt, MI  48820,  517-669-8311 to make arrangements for inspection in accordance with Section 6, Paragraph B., Sub paragraph O, of the local “Sanitary Sewer Ordinance”.
  • All abandoned private sanitary sewer disposal systems must have the contents removed and then filled with suitable material, in accordance with the conditions in Section 5, Paragraph G, of the local Sanitary Sewer Use Ordinance”.
  • All Contractors must submit proper credentials, in accordance with Section 6, paragraph D, Subparagraph 1., of the local “Sanitary Sewer Use Ordinance”, to the local Municipal Office for approval prior to starting any work.
  • A separate and independent building sewer (lead) shall be provided for every building in which sanitary sewer originates. Duplexes and condominiums shall have a separate and independent building sewer (lead) for each unit.
  • All industrial users shall provide a sanitary sewer manhole for sampling purposes at the site’s property line/right of way or other location approved by the SCCMUA.
  • Connections to the sanitary sewer in designated low lying areas shall have an approved back flow preventer installed within the building drainage system.
  • Any work performed within the public road right of way may be required to have a permit from the Clinton County Road Commission.


ROAD CUTS:

  • For all excavation in or near public roads or streets, a road cut permit must be obtained prior to starting any work.  Permits are issued from the Clinton County Road Commission (CCRC), 989-224-3274, City of DeWitt 517-669-2441, or MDOT 517-335-3754.  Road permits must be presented to SCCMUA prior to beginning construction.
  • Required backfill will be according to the “Municipal Standards” as well as MDOT, CCRC or any of the municipalities.
