Illegal Connections to the Sanitary Sewer

What are they? Simply, they are when storm water is connected to the sanitary sewer. In our communities, this practice is illegal and causes issues during storm events at the wastewater treatment plant. It might seem like the most convenient option to discharge your sump pump and downspouts to the sanitary sewer, but you’re actually risking water and sewage damage to your home. Our friends in Cedar Rapids, Iowa created a great video that talks about this issue. If you have questions about what can and can’t be connected, please feel free to contact us. Please enjoy this great video!
